Sydney’s most historic hotel, Pier One Sydney has just had a 15-million-dollar refurbishment and we checked in to experience it. We stayed down the pointy end of the hotel in room 214, in the Admiral Suite. The room is one of a kind, the balcony runs the length of the suite literally within arm’s reach of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The rejuvenation of the building was done by architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer who is known for their work in rejuvenating historic buildings. They took a cue from harbour whilst paying homage to the heritage of the wharf and its marine history while giving the building a contemporary lift.
Each room is different and unique, with selection of the Australia furniture carefully curated and positioned in each room to show off the beautiful imperfections found in the hotel’s original frame.
Another stand out feature to Suite 214 is the luxurious bathtub, set within the centre of the bathroom. We filled it with bubbles, relaxed back and took in the magical atmosphere as dusk turned to night and the bright lights of Luna Park appeared. The back wall of the bathroom is one large mirror, so you don’t miss a beat of the stunning harbour views.
The Bathroom amenities are also worth a mention, Melbourne based natural skincare the Hunter Lab has a curated range with signature scents specially formulated for Pier One. Each bathroom is also fitted with a Dyson hairdryer.
If staying at Pier One this summer isn’t on your agenda, be sure to pop down to the pier anyway. It’s the place to be this summer, with their ‘Summer on the Pier’ offerings on food, cocktails and DJ’s over the weekend. Head there for an after-work drink and experience the cities best sunset views or organize a booth with you and your besties on the weekend.
Pier One has partnered with Archie Rose Distilling Co and curated a cocktail list full of summery thirst-quenching cocktails. Be sure to try the signature Pier One Sunset Spritz whilst you’re down there too – it’s Archie Rose signature Dry Gin with mandarin, clove and tonic for a light, fresh, yet distinctive seaside flavor.
To compliment your balmy cocktails, the Bar One Food Truck is there for the summer too. It brings with it a casual dining experience to the hotel, offering fresh a fresh seafood menu such as oysters, prawns, and our favourite fish taco, plus house favorites – pizzas, salad, and antipasto platters.
Whether you’re looking at booking a room for an evening or two or heading down for some of Sydney’s best harborside cocktails, put Pier One on your list of must-visit locations this summer.
